Once upon a time, a fashion designer met an artist, and the rest is history.

Joanne Litz, head fashion designer for a multi-national sportswear firm was introduced to a friend of her brother-in-law, an artist and designer named Dennis Wolk.

At first we were intrigued by the idea of collaborating on a vision we both shared – creating one-of-a-kind artwear that expressed our talents and skills.  In time we fell in love, married, and  Steel Pony became our baby.

Our principals guided our process then and now.

We design and produce our Wearable Art line in the U.S.

For one thing, we knew several artists who, for profit reasons, took their designs to third world countries to be produced far less expensively than they could be here. The problem? Usually the workers were exploited by the manufacturers, making far less than a living wage, and working in atrocious conditions. It costs more to produce in the U.S., but we refuse to sacrifice our integrity to the bottom line.

For another thing, we’re both devoted to quality. We have our hands directly on every garment, every color, every design, every button, every zipper, and every hand-dyed lot. We know what we want, we know what our clients expect, and we’re deeply involved in making sure their expectations are met.

We started with silk screened t-shirts. Then we went to hand-painted ones. Soon we expanded to  dresses, tops, pants, leggings and sweaters. Over time we added yoga-wear, alternative bridal and special occasion clothing. We create clothing for women of all sizes and shapes, and some of our plus-size clients find that we suit their bodies so well they don’t want to wear anything else! Every garment made here, by us, for you. MORE
